Efficacy of acustimulation for post-operative nausea and vomiting : A systematic review of randomized clinical trials

Abstract
Purpose: Post-operative nausea and vomiting continues to have a considerable effect on the physical and psychological well-being of patients, despite significant advances in pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic intervention. This study aims to estimate the effects of on acustimulation for post-operative nausea and vomiting through reviewing the studies.

Methods: Literature searches were made through Pubmed, Medline, Koreanstudies Information Service System and Research Information Sharing Service.

Results: Nine studies were selected. They were designed as double blind or observer blind and randomized controlled trials, and were analyzed statistically. Seven of nine studies supported the positive effects of acustimulation for prevent post-operative nausea and vomiting.

Conslusion: This study suggests that acustimulation may be effective, nonpharmacologic adjuvant intervention for post-operative nausea and vomiting.
